This often involves scenario planning to predict how energy consumption and generation will evolve to 2050. The forecast methodology is reviewed periodically to incorporate new data, stakeholder feedback, and changes in energy policy or technology. Stakeholder inputs including local authorities, developers, and energy providers are included to ensure the plans align with community needs and regulatory requirements.
\n
Analysis of Network Capacity: Assessing the current capacity of the network to identify areas where reinforcement or upgrades are necessary. This includes our planning teams evaluating substations and distribution lines.
\n
Option Development: Creating potential solutions to address identified constraints. This may involve traditional reinforcement methods or exploring flexibility services that can alleviate pressure on the network.
\n
Reporting: Compiling findings into a structured report that outlines the methodology, assumptions, and planned interventions. This report is typically made available to the public for transparency.
\n
Review and Update: The methodology is reviewed periodically to incorporate new data, stakeholder feedback, and changes in energy policy or technology.
\n
\n\n
Quality Control Statement
\n
Quality Control Measures include:
\n
\n
Verification steps to match features only with confirmed functional locations.
\n
Manual review and correction of data inconsistencies.
\n
Use of additional verification steps to ensure accuracy in the methodology.
\n
\n\n
Assurance Statement
\n
The Open Data Team and Network Insights Team worked together to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

Other

Download dataset information: Metadata (JSON)

Definitions of key terms related to this dataset can be found in the Open Data Portal Glossary: https://ukpowernetworks.opendatasoft.com/pages/glossary/

To view this data please register and login.
", "theme": ["Network Usage"], "keyword": null, "license": "CC BY 4.0", "license_url": "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/", "language": "en", "metadata_languages": ["en"], "timezone": null, "modified": "2026-01-13T15:57:24.976000+00:00", "modified_updates_on_metadata_change": false, "modified_updates_on_data_change": true, "data_processed": "2026-01-13T15:57:24.976000+00:00", "metadata_processed": "2026-01-14T09:27:57.813000+00:00", "geographic_reference": null, "geographic_reference_auto": false, "territory": null, "geometry_types": ["Point"], "bbox": {"type": "Feature", "geometry": {"coordinates": [[[1.7573559377342463, 52.94514197856188], [-0.9580650273710489, 52.94514197856188], [-0.9580650273710489, 50.7581639662385], [1.7573559377342463, 50.7581639662385], [1.7573559377342463, 52.94514197856188]]], "type": "Polygon"}, "properties": {}}, "publisher": "UK Power Networks, Company number 3870728", "references": null, "records_count": 176580, "attributions": null, "source_domain": null, "source_domain_title": null, "source_domain_address": null, "source_dataset": null, "shared_catalog": null, "federated": false, "parent_domain": null, "update_frequency": ["ANNUAL_2"]}, "dublin-core": {"title": "Distribution Future Energy Scenarios Network Scenario Headroom Report (DFES NSHR)", "alternative": null, "subject": ["Demand", "Generation", "Headroom", "Distribution System Operator (DSO)"], "description": "

Introduction
\n
Our Distribution Future Energy Scenarios Network Scenario Headroom Report (DFES NSHR) is part of our Network Development Plan (NDP).
